The Silent Religion

They say there is weather coming.  Just after dawn the storm windows began to shake, as the gloom that always seems to usher in the rain and wind began to coat this part of the world.  I have always loved the fall, and selfishly loved its storms.

The skeletons of ancient trees swaying against the starkness of a blue-less sky.  The clouds and their heavy, battleship gray bellies, that float with such effort over a field.  Where the velvet leaves of cabbage and lettuce dance closely to the plowed ground.  Autumn and its storms are a silent illegitimate religion.  That few follow and fewer notice.  Never has a church been as holy as the heavens before a Autumn storm.

I bid you reader, to go worship.. Soon we will be within the annual purgatory of winter.

  1. Lovely photos - made me think of this:

    "The heavens declare the glory of God;
    the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth speech;
    night after night they display knowledge. There is no speech or language where their voice is not heard. Their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world."

    The natural world does awaken a sense of worship and awe in us. But what are we to worship? The clouds - mist that is here today and gone tomorrow? The changing of the seasons that is only there for temperate climates like ours? Or are these things designed to point us to the true object of our heart's worship - the God of the Bible? His creation declares to all of us that He is. And He is wonderful.

  2. Wow - what a wonderfully written post! I love it and that picture is simply beautiful.

  3. I love storms...especially when you are safe and sound inside. Great writing. Thank you for entering my giveaway!

  4. Hi Sarahlynn :)

    This post is beautiful! I love storms too :)

    As far as your question...
    We stained our floors with a poly stain, but didn't exactly seal it. We used a deck stain mop. I don't know if it would work with paint though. Have you been to Lola B's? Kasey painted part of her floors white and she might be a better help than I am. You can find her here:

  5. thank you Rue I was just going to roll the floors i had to figure out how I was going to seal them .. I didn't even know they had Deck stain mops! cool! -Sarahlynn
